Kathmandu, May 15: A Parliamentary Committee has demanded that the government manage temporary shelters for those displaced from home by the recent devastating earthquake
The National Disaster Management, Monitoring and Direction Special Committee under the Legislature-Parliament Friday called on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and submitted a six-point memorandum to him, appealing for immediate rehabilitation for the people displaced by the disaster. The committee is headed by Subas Nembang.
Moreover, the government has been urged for guaranteeing stocks of foodstuffs sufficient for at least three months for the people of disaster-hit districts with the deputation of medics' team there.
The memo has called on the government to set up transitional rehabilitation centers for the children rendered parentless by the quake, aged citizens affected by it and those rendered bed-ridden. The government has been suggested to make the accelerate relief, rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction works more effective and depute ministers to the crisis-hit districts.
In a positive response to the Committee's call, the Prime Minister pledged to address its demands, according to Committee Chair Nembang.
