Quake resulted change in geological situatedness

Kathmandu, May 6: The Department of Survey has said that there has been observed change in the geological landscape of the quake affected regions after the April 25 devastating earthquake.
Earlier, different international news agencies had made such claim citing various studies.
According to the studies carried out by the Department at Nagarkot, Phulchoki, Bungmati, Lakhedanda, Kumari of Nuwakot and Swoyambhu of Kathmandu after the earthquake, the geological situatedness of the quake-affected region has gone up in the south-west region.
Director General of the Department Madhusudan Adhikari said that the study confirmed that the land has moved more towards the south and less to the west.
He further said that altitude of the quake-affected region has increased by 70 to 80 centimeters adding that the study was carried out based on Global Positioning System (GPS). Adhikari said that additional studies from Lhasa of China and Hyderabad of India and 11 other places were conducted to confirm the change in the geographical location.
Adhikari claimed that a new map of 13 most affected districts has been prepared.
