KMC distributes ID cards to 5,400 quake-hit housesholds

Kathmandu, June 9: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Tuesday has started distributing identity cards to 5,400 households, recorded to be affected by the April 25 earthquake, in the capital city. 

The ID card distribution started following the government's decision to provide with Rs 15,000 each family whose houses were rendered inhabitable by the 7.6 Richter scale quake and subsequent aftershocks, according to KMC Spokesperson Shantaram Pokharel. 


Detail about the household affected will be made public amid a function and the amount will be distributed to the right holders on presence of representatives of political parties, security personnel and civil society members it was shared.

Pokharel further said that out of total 1,400 applicants seeking KMC's support in dismantling their quake-damaged houses as much as 40 houses have been dismantled while some 100 house owners took the bid on their own.

"KMC was facing problems to topple the high-rise buildings sustaining risks in lack of sophisticated equipments," explained Pokharel.
